Music Video: Story Boards

Hey Guys

So here is the story boards that we created to aid us in our planning of our music video. These helped split our music video into sections that we then organised into the filming days.

Enjoy.

Album Cover: Putting the CD together

Hey Guys!

So today I printed and cut out the final designs for mine and Dan's album cover; Lift Off. The CD case is covered with a front cover attached to an 8 page booklet, a back to the booklet, back cover with two spines on each side and a tray card with a a spine window.

The back cover had to be resized as, in the top picture, the back is too small as it is the same size as the front cover, not taking into account the extension of the spine window. In addition, the two spines are too large to fit in the spine area. I figured out that I had been using the wrong template so simply resized the whole design; extending the back and shrinking the spines. The result is the back cover you can see on the bottom picture.

So that's that.I will be uploading all the designs of everything that makes up the album along with their templates soon so they can be viewed in greater detail.

Stay tuned for more in the coming days and weeks.

Behind The Scenes - 3 and 4

Hey Guys!

So here's episodes 3 and 4 of our Behind The Scenes series. We decide these two were too short to be separate videos so attached them as one.

Filming - Day 4

Hey Guys

So today, with the kind help of mine and Dan's friends Georgia and Niamh, we finished the third part of our music video.

The footage we took didn't take as long to do as our other sessions as this part of the music video is smaller than the rest.

Tomorrow me and Dan will start applying these clips to our music video in Premier Pro as well as editing our behind the scenes footage.

So, bye for now.

Filming - Day 3

Hey Guys

So on Tuesday we had our third block of filming where we finished off part two of our music video. We are currently adding the footage taken to our music video and also I am compiling the next behind the scene video.

Afterwards, we discussed the next part of our music video; the funeral. We decided it would be best to do this inside, favourably Dan's house as we can use his bedroom as it is more neutrally decorated than mine and so better suited. This is because we didn't want to rely on the unpredictability of the weather and natural light again. Plus we rethought some scenes that now make the filming more practical as before, my character was supposed to rise from the ground as he was originally planned to be buried. However, this would not work or at least not work successfully.

With that decided, our next filming block will be Thursday!

So stay tuned for more soon!

CD and Website

Hey Guys

Here's just a look at some of the ideas that I've been thinking about and discussing with Dan with both our CD and website design.

(Also, I may seem like I'm repeating myself seen as I talk about the first cover art I did which also features on the last post but I wanted to add it again to compare to the second cover art).

Enjoy.

Update: Backup Back Cover Ideas

Hey Guys

So yesterday I thought it might be a good idea to think of some different designs for our back cover of the CD album. At the moment the back cover is the same space background as the front, minus the rocket and title and has a list of other songs. It is usually the norm to have the background similar to the front with pop rock bands, for example McBusted's 2015 album 'McBusted' as a similar back background as the front but we see the backs of the band members.

So here's an idea I had:

I decided it would be better if I drew out this design and then take a picture of the end result instead f drawing it on a programme as I feel that would take longer and have less of an artistic feel. As you can see I started off with the traffic light character from our music video.
I began to add more random stuff to signify as other situations that take place in the other songs listed on the album that we are not making music videos of. Also I began outlining the drawings in a sharpie as this obviously makes the images stand out and look better as a result.
After adding some more random images such as aliens that look like eggs, a retro robot emerging from the sand and a classic UFO abducting people. This mash up I believe goes in line with the space theme of the album by adding these images and also creates a more interesting end result to look at in comparison to our current back cover design.

Update: No Filming for Thursday

Hey Guys!

Due to bad weather me and Dan were not able to film on Thursday, which means we are going to have to get the big chunk done on Friday. Although this seems fine as Friday is the day when we have more time to film because we will start earlier plus the weather is supposed to be better.

Fingers crossed!

Bye for now.

Update: Cardboard Chaos

Hey Guys!

So today I, with some help, made the car door, signs and traffic light mask from the collection of cardboard I've been accompanying over these past few weeks.

So now we are ready to start filming the next part of the music video tomorrow! Although we aren't planning to get a whole lot filmed as we are having to rely on natural light for this part outside and it'll get dark quick. So, we are also filming on Friday at an earlier start as we have got permission to film in the afternoon rather than go to our media lesson.

So that's that. I will most likely do another update on Friday saying about how filing went and soon after that the next 'Behind the Scene' episode will be released.

Bye for now!

Creating the Cine-scope Look

Hey Guys

As I mentioned, me and Dan are experimenting with adding a cine-scope look to our music video. If you are not sure what that means basically its the two black bars added in movies (and also music videos) that give it a professional, cinema make-over.

This is the video that we used to learn how to apply this in Premier Pro:

Filming - Day 1

Hey Guys

So on Saturday morning me and Dan started our filming for our music video. We used the kitchen at Dan's grandparents church to film the chef character section at the beginning as our location; a place where we have previously used for a preliminary task, hence the absence of location shots. However, we are working on a 'behind the scenes' series, using the camcorder, to show what is going on as well as the filming. The first episode will contain brief location shots and will be released shortly.

Anyway, at the moment we are compiling our footage together in Adobe CC Premier Pro, experimenting with post-production features like filters as well as adding a cine-scope feel.

Also we are currently arranging when our next filming session will be.

So as always, bye for now.

Update: Getting Ready For Filming

Hey Guys

So me and Dan have got the equipment sorted; a DSLR, a camcorder, a green scree, a tripod, a gorilla pod, a 35mm lens and a light. As well as this with have an extra battery and a charger for emergence.

Also, we have some lab coats and the chef's hat sorted and at this moment need to sort out our bits of ingredients.

So, we start filming tomorrow!

Bye for now.

Album Cover: Designing the 'Lift Off' title

Hey Guys

So yesterday I finished making the title for our album cover and so here's just a little step-by-step guide to how I did it.

Update: Website and Merchandise Making

Hey Guys!

So yesterday me and Dan were finishing off creating our merchandise online. Our products consist of a few t-shirts, clothes, hats and a mug. These pictures of our products will be then uploaded to our website, which is still in process.

However, last night I was able to make some significant progress when it comes to designing the main layout of our website by applying a definite background and header with buttons and links.

In other news, me and Dan are also thinking about starting filming sometime soon and have decided to structure of shooting schedule into one session per each character we have created. For example, our first will be the chef's introduction.

And that's that for now, So, as always, stay tuned for more.

Lighting

Hey Guys

Seen as me and Dan have never properly looked into or considered lighting whilst filming, we thought that looking into it more and taking it into account it would help use effectively improve the quality of our music video.

So here's a little look into lighting!

Update: Storyboarding and Shooting

Hey Guys

So me and Dan are still working on the story boarding as the sketches take a while and we aren't trying to blow all of our ideas into the first minute of the song so are looking for inspiration.

In addition to this, we are starting to think about when (and where as we haven't been definite yet on our location) we are going to start shooting as we both think that post-production will be difficult. Also, we have staring to compile a list of equipment needed for the music video. From camera to clothes to spaghetti we're getting it all organised.

As always, be expecting more posts flying your way and by for now.

Update: Practising Slow Motion

Hey Guys

Since we decided to do a cloning test in order to see how to do it before we did it for real in our one minute music video, we thought it would be a good idea to experiment with slow motion.

Trying to get used to After Effects more

Within the process of doing our story boarding, we realised that slow motion was going to be used during a few moments of the song, mainly in the chorus, in order to focus on and exaggerate shots.

We filmed Dan in order to use as test footage. After simply altering the 'speed/duration' of the footage on Premier Pro, we noticed that this wasn't good enough as the video seem choppy. So, after consulting some YouTube tutorials, we managed to change the frames per second (fps) from 30 to 60, thus smoothening out the video.

Afterwards however, we decided to work on a copy through After Effects, in order to test our skills with this lesser used programme.

So, be expecting this test (or well tests from both Premier Pro and After Effects) uploaded soon as well as the YouTube tutorials we used to help us.

As always, see you guys later.
